Standard Wedges

Wedges are used in both shear wave and longitudinal wave applications, including straight beam linear scans. These wedges perform basically the same function in phased array systems as in conventional single element flaw detection, coupling sound energy from the transducer to the test piece in such a way that it mode converts and refracts at a desired angle in accordance with Snell's Law.

  1. Available in standard refracted angles of 0°, 45°, 55°, and 60° in steel for angle-beam inspections from 30° to 70°, SW or LW.
  2. The IHC wedge option can be ordered to improve the quality of the inspection. Irrigation, mounting holes for the wedge holder to work with any suitable scanner, and carbide pins to increase wear resistance.
  3. Custom wedges with specific refracted angles can be ordered, wedge shape and contour can also be customized.
  4. Wedges can also be custom contoured to accommodate complex part geometries.
  5. We also provide high temperature wedges that can be used up to 150⁰C.
